Namaste and Welcome!

Yoga

Tree Of Life provides a peaceful dedicated yoga space –a yoga studio/sanctuary that is designed and used only for the practice of Hatha Yoga. Yoga props are available for use. Yoga at Tree Of Life is viewed in the classical sense as a holistic practice, a science of self-study. Tree Of Life teaches a blend of Hatha Yoga (asana and pranayama –yoga poses and breathing techniques) based in the Kripalu Yoga tradition that emphasizes a loving, meditative approach toward the practice of yoga and the practice of living. To learn more about Kriplau Yoga, please visit the website for the Kripalu Center of Yoga and Holistic Health at www.kripalu.org. Yoga at Tree Of Life is classical Hatha Yoga blending the heart and mindfulness of Kripalu Yoga with alignment per Iyengar, the quiet of Yin yoga, flow of Vinyasa, and the Scaravelli Method of awakening the spine

The benefits of a regular yoga practice are numerous. The practice of yoga poses lengthens, tones and brings flexibility to the muscles. Many people find relief from chronic pain as the alignment of the body improves due to the body awareness and strength that develops from the proper practice of hatha yoga. The circulation of blood and lymph throughout the body is improved which nourishes the muscles, organs, and glands while cleansing waste products from the body. Deep breathing and the practice of yoga poses promotes a state of relaxation which soothes the nervous system, thereby reducing stress which improves the strength of the immune system. A sense of mental clarity and wholeness is created as awareness is focused on the breath and movement of the body. As layers of tension and mind chatter drop away it is possible to find peace within, “center,” and contact your true and higher self. These practices serve to bring physical health, a sense of peace, and alignment with your higher purpose in life.

Gentle Yoga
Moderate/Mixed Level Yoga
Continuing Yoga

A class for those new to yoga or for those who prefer a gentler yoga practice. The basic yoga postures (asanas) and warm-up exercises will gradually increase strength and flexibility as they teach proper body alignment. The class will cover the benefits of the postures and the proper, safe way to enter into and out of them. Yoga at this level is adaptable to all levels of fitness and for special physical considerations.

This moderately-paced class builds on the basic yoga postures, breathing techniques taught in the gentle yoga class. Students should have completed at least one prior yoga class. This class begins to blend the spiritual teachings of yoga into a more challenging yoga practice. The body becomes stronger and more supple as the practioner develops the sensitivity to advance in the inner and outer practices of yoga.

This class is led as an intermediate level class for those wanting a more challenging class. Basic asanas are practiced along with more advanced postures and variations of the basic postures. We will deepen work with the breath (pranayama), the finer points of alignment and the heart-centeredness that comes from the ongoing practice of yoga.

Private Yoga Individuals and small groups may schedule private yoga sessions. A private yoga session allows for personalized instruction in the poses and can be used to design a personal home practice. Small groups may schedule a special class or even a full series of classes. Please call for more information.Guidelines and Policies

  • Wear comfortable, non-binding clothing and layer to adjust for changing body temperature. Eat lightly at least 1-2 hours before class. You don’t want to exercise with a full stomach. It is a good idea to drink water prior to and after the practice yoga postures. Listen to and follow instructions carefully, ask if you are unsure how to perform a certain movement. Breathe smoothly and continuously as you breath and stretch, do not hold your breath or strain to attain any position. Women’s considerations: menstruating women may not want to practice inverted (upside down) postures, pregnant women must consult with their health care provider.
  • All exercise programs involve a risk of injury, by choosing to participate in classes you voluntarily assume a certain risk of injury. If you follows these guidelines you will reduce your risk of injury.

BodyWise requires that all students complete a health form and liability release and requests compliance with yoga studio etiquette. BodyWise strongly encourages students to follow through on the commitment to experience yoga since the effects of yoga are cumulative. Due to the nature of this small operation BodyWise cannot guarantee the availability of make up classes or provide a refund after classes have begun. Unless prior arrangements have been made the yoga studio will be locked 5 minutes after the start of class. The yoga studio will be available 15 minutes before class.
Please treat the yoga studio as a sacred space by observing practice of silence and removing your shoes when you enter the building. Quiet conversation in the lounge or outside is okay. Please be considerate of those with environmental sensitivity by avoiding coming to class wearing perfumes, colognes, and other forms of synthetic scents.
